How to choose the best door manufacturer in India
Ten questions that separate a real manufacturer from a trader, and the answers you should expect for a hotel, hospital, school or housing project.
Manufacturer or trader?
Many door brands in India buy shutters from several workshops and sell them under one name. That is fine for one flat, risky for 500. On a project you want a manufacturer that controls the core, the pressing, the finishing and the checks under one roof, so every door matches the sample you approved.
The 10 questions to ask
- Do you own your plant, and can we visit? A real manufacturer will invite you. Dormak runs a 20,000 m² plant in Jatawali, Jaipur, with German machinery.
- How long have you been making doors? Look for a track record measured in years and doors, not just showrooms. Dormak: 18 years, 2.4 million doors.
- What exactly is inside the door? Expect named materials: core, frame timber, skins, glue. Dormak uses Sauerland (Germany) cores, kiln-dried plantation pine, E1 and D3 adhesives.
- How do you check quality? Ask for the number of checks and where they happen. Dormak checks every door 12 times, from raw material to dispatch.
- Do you make fire-rated doors? Ask for ratings and test reports. Dormak makes 30, 60 and 120-minute doors.
- Do you supply matching frames? Wooden, laminated or LVL frames made with the shutter avoid site problems.
- Can you match our design scheme? Ask how many finishes and whether custom designs are possible. Dormak offers 100+ laminate finishes plus veneers and designs.
- Will you send samples first? Finish samples and a sample door before bulk production are standard at Dormak.
- Who else have you supplied? Ask for references at your scale; Dormak can share client letters from developers.
- What happens after delivery? Ask about installation support and how complaints are handled.
Red flags
- No plant visit allowed, or only a showroom
- Vague materials ("best quality core")
- Fire doors sold without test reports or matching frames
- A price far below others for the "same" specification
- No sample door before production
